Mutapa was the name of a beautiful, orphaned baby elephant who was rescued from the wild in terrible condition. Despite 24-hour attention and constant love and nurturing, Mutapa – so very ill and malnourished when we first arrived – didn’t survive.
Learning about the incredible challenges associated with nursing these vulnerable babies back to health, and the lack of available resources, spurred us to action. Simply put, Mutapa changed our lives.
Today, monies raised by MUTAPA support a wide range of activities, including care and feeding of young calves; rescue operations; expansion of the elephant boma; anti-poaching efforts; and building of a new research center.
